Ohio Regulations:

When possible, DO NOT sign and date a fishing license until the morning we are fishing. If the trip is cancelled due to bad weather, it might be possible to use it the next day.

An Ohio fishing license is NOT required of persons who are:

  • Less than 16 years of age.
  • Ohio residents 66+ get about 50% off their license.
  • Fishing on Ohio of Free Fishing Days.
  • Giving assistance to an angler who is physically disabled, provided the two persons together are using only one line.
  • Members of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty while on leave or furlough. However, members of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty stationed in Ohio, but NOT on leave or furlough, are required to purchase a resident license.

Canadian Regulations:

We are in Ontario Zone 19

An Outdoors Card is only needed for licenses longer than 1 day. Outdoors Cards are good for 3 years.

Ontario fishing license age regulations:

  • Non-Canadian residents 18 years of age and over must purchase a fishing license.
  • Non-Canadian residents under 18 years of age may fish without a license, but can’t keep fish unless they have a license.
  • A fishing license is needed for all ages older than 18.

Regulations

Collecting this information from the crew ahead of time can make the licensing process go faster, especially for Canadian licenses. Having your state driver’s license number handy helps when getting an Ohio license.
