Walleye Information

The best time to come is somewhat dependent on the water temperature, but here’s a general guideline:

Walleye Jig Fishing
Mid-March to April 30th

Walleye (We use casting harnesses, we DO NOT troll. We prefer to actually catch our fish.)
May 1st to October 31st, the sweet spots are June, July & September.

Limit is 6/person, 15″ minimum

At a time when more and more people are needlessly trolling to catch walleye, we believe that if people had the opportunity to cast for walleye, most would not want to troll anymore. There’s something satisfying about casting and retrieving, you vs the fish. You can control the depth on each cast, you can alter your retrieve, faster or slower, stopping and starting, shuffling, sweeping, etc. You can fish your way and show up your buddies. Unlike trolling where the boat catches the fish, and you’re just reeling them in, you actually catch the fish with us. While we do occasionally drift and drag bottom bouncing rigs, when a fish is caught on them, you’re fighting the fish, the boat is not dragging it to the surface.

Sometimes guys like to add to the fun by putting a few bucks on the first fish, biggest fish, etc, you can’t really do those things while trolling. When trolling you get to reel one in when it’s your turn, if it’s a junk fish, tough luck. When you’re casting, you can greatly control what species you catch by avoiding more junk fish if you follow the instruction that you are given. You’re actually catching them, not the boat.
